South Sydney Rabbitohs officials are hoping it will be given time to heal during the off-season but if issues continue his future could be in doubt.

His younger brother Tom said Sam had to select which games he played carefully and he believed it was the right decision to skip Great Britain’s end-of-season tour.

‘He couldn’t justify playing. If you’re missing a fair amount of games through the year you have to look at these games and make a smart decision,’ Tom told the Daily Telegraph

Tom is also suffering from the effects of a long NRL season with the Rabbitohs but has made himself available for international selection.

‘I missed seven so I had to make a call if I was going to play. My body is feeling good now. It doesn’t take long for the body to recuperate,’ he said.

The 27-year-old said he was initially unsure to be picked by coach Wayne Bennett but chose to embrace the opportunity.

‘But I told him if you want me to play I’ll play. Any chance I get to wear the England jersey I’ll take it,’ he said.
