Saido Berahino has had a warrant for his arrest over a £75,000 drink-driving fine withdrawn after a court admitted it was wrongfully issued.

The warrant was made on Tuesday after the former West Bromwich Albion striker failed to attend Willesden magistrates court in relation to the charge.

Berahino was banned from driving for 30 months and given until September 7 to pay fines and court costs totalling £75,870 after being caught drink-driving in London earlier this year.

It is stated in the document that a warrant was made for Berahino’s arrest for the non-payment of fines on October 8, despite the fact the forward had appealed and was no longer living in the UK owing to his switch to Belgian side Zulte Waregam.

But legal representatives acting on Berahino’s behalf explained to the court on Wednesday the background behind the striker’s non-attendance and it was ruled that the ‘process should not have taken place’ and withdrew the warrant.

Berahino has now been set an initial date of November 11, or before, to pay the fine.
