‘It was always a dream growing up to be a part of it’: Georgia Fowler admits she’s ‘disappointed’ the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show isn’t going ahead this year… as she supports diversity on the runway

Georgia Fowler has revealed how ‘disappointed’ she is that the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been cancelled this year.

The 27-year-old said that she supports calls for diversity on the runway, after Australian model Robyn Lawley urged people to boycott the parade if they don’t use a ‘curvy girl’ in the next show.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph this week, Kiwi model Georgia said: ‘It was always a dream growing up to be a part of it.’

‘I mean I’ve done it for the past three years and it was always a dream growing up to be a part of it and it’s disappointing it’s not going to happen this year – but who knows what will happen,’ Georgia told the publication.

She added about diversity: ‘Absolutely, there should be diversity because beauty comes in all forms.’

The brunette beauty walked the runway for the brand from 2016 to 2018.

It comes after Australian model Shanina Shaik told The Daily Telegraph in July that the coveted show had been cancelled.

‘It’s something I’m not used to because every year around this time I’m training like an angel,’ she said at the time.

Shanina was first cast in the lingerie giant’s annual show in 2011 and she appeared the following year in 2012 as well as 2014, 2015 and 2018.

In May, it was revealed that the show would no longer be aired on network television after 24 years.

The New York Times reported that a leaked internal email from Leslie Wexner, who is the chief executive of Victoria’s Secret’s parent company, L Brands, revealed that the lingerie giant was undergoing some changes.

‘Fashion is a business of change. We must evolve and change to grow. With that in mind, we have decided to re-think the traditional Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show,’ he wrote.

‘Going forward we don’t believe network television is the right fit. In 2019 and beyond, we’re focusing on developing exciting and dynamic content and a new kind of event—delivered to our customers on platforms that she’s glued to… and in ways that will push the boundaries of fashion in the global digital age.’

The email came six months after marketing chief Ed Razek dismissed calls for plus-sized and ‘transexual’ models, telling Vogue at the time that the show is a ‘fantasy.’
