‘That’s all I’m gonna be: honest!’ New MasterChef judge Melissa Leong says she’s proud to be outspoken …after it was revealed she once SLAMMED the show in unearthed tweets

The new MasterChef judges were announced on Thursday, and food and travel writer Melissa Leong, has already stirred up controversy.

In a series of unearthed tweets dating back to 2011 and 2012, the newly appointed judge made scathing comments about the show she now works for.

And in an interview with Confidential on Friday, the writer defended being outspoken.

‘That’s all I’m gonna be: honest!’ New MasterChef judge Melissa Leong (pictured) told Confidential on Friday that she’s proud to be outspoken

She told the publication: ‘I can only be me. I’ve worked very hard to get to the point where I’m very comfortable in my skin, and I’m very lucky I’ve found a way to articulate that honestly.’

Melissa added: ‘That’s all I’m gonna be: honest.’

She said of the three new judges, including Andy Allen and Jock Zonfrillo: ‘I feel all three of us have worked blood, sweat and tears to be here in our own professions, and to be asked to be here as part of the new guard’.

It comes after Tweets were unearthed in which Melissa was scathing towards MasterChef.

‘What happens when you go on MasterChef & then open a restaurant? Apparently not much. Back to 2nd hand car sales then…’ she wrote back in 2012.

And responding to a tweet in 2011, Melissa said the worst thing an amateur chef could do is appear on the long-running show.

Even as recently as July, Melissa claimed she had no intention of replacing any of the previous judges on the hit cooking show.

‘Let me put it on record: I don’t want to be the next Matt Preston. I don’t want to be the next anyone, for that matter. I want to be the first ME,’ she wrote on Instagram.

But after being announced as a judge on the show, Melissa took to Instagram to say she was ‘thrilled’ with her new role.

‘I’m thrilled to confirm the whispers happening out there and say YES! I will indeed be part of the new guard for MasterChef Australia!⁣

‘I could never have dreamed that I would be asked to be part of the next chapter of this great Australian legacy, and it is with deep respect and appreciation for everything that has come before, that we take our first steps into the new.’ ⁣
