CBS vice-chair Shari Redstone is reportedly looking into launching a rival to Fox News and has already spoken to former host Megyn Kelly about the plans, sources say.

The media mogul is said to have approached the fired NBC presenter as she looks to set up a conservative-leaning show after CBS Corp and Viacom Inc reached a deal to merge in August.

Redstone, who oversaw the deal to reunite her father’s media empire, may rebrand an existing Viacom channel to create the competitor to Fox News, sources told The Hollywood Reporter

A Viacom spokesperson told DailyMail.com ‘Viacom has no intention of launching a TV news channel, conservative or otherwise.’

Pluto, acquired by Viacom in March for $340 million, already has plans for a streaming conservative news and opinion channel.

Those plans are said to have been in the pipeline before the acquisition.

Sources say Redstone, who is understood to have met with Donald Trump in recent weeks, has spoken with both current and former Fox News hosts.

She said of the president: ‘He’s always been very good to me and a tremendous supporter of me personally.’

Kelly left Rupert Murdoch’s cable network to go to NBC where she was fired for comments about wearing blackface.

A Redstone spokesman also denied plans for the conservative-leaning network to The Hollywood Reporter.

But a former executive at CBS-Viacom says Redstone has attended ‘multiple meetings’ about the idea. A source said CBS News would likely be shielded from the venture.

They said: ‘Everybody wants Fox News money but nobody wants to destroy their [existing] news brand.’

Redstone thinks Fox News has ‘gone crazy’, the source added.

The new company will be named ViacomCBS Inc and will combine the CBS television network, CBS News, Showtime cable networks with MTV Networks, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and the Paramount movie studios.

The two companies are controlled by National Amusements Inc, the holding company owned by billionaire Sumner Redstone and his daughter, Shari.

Trump has been increasingly critical of Fox News in recent weeks.

He vented at the channel earlier this month after the network’s pollsters published a shocking survey that showed more than half of registered voters want him removed from office.

The president has become increasingly frustrated by daytime news anchors and paid pundits who take pointed shots at him, two White House officials said.

‘From the day I announced I was running for President, I have NEVER had a good @FoxNews Poll. Whoever their Pollster is, they suck,’ Trump tweeted on Thursday. ‘But @FoxNews is also much different than it used to be in the good old days.’

‘With people like Andrew Napolitano, who wanted to be a Supreme Court Justice & I turned him down (he’s been terrible ever since), Shep Smith, @donnabrazile (who gave Crooked Hillary the debate questions & got fired from @CNN), & others, @FoxNews doesn’t deliver for US anymore.’

He also lashed out at Fox News in August after news anchor Sandra Smith interviewed Democratic National Committee Communications Director Xochitl Hinojosa. He tweeted that the press flack was ‘spewing out whatever she wanted with zero pushback’ from Smith.

‘The New @FoxNews is letting millions of GREAT people down! We have to start looking for a new News Outlet. Fox isn’t working for us anymore!’ Trump vented.

DailyMail.com has contacted representatives from CBS for comment.
