There were duelling rallies on the streets of Edmonton Friday as Climate Justice Edmonton was joined by Swedish teenage activist Greta Thunberg as well as Edmonton youth and other activists in a “climate strike” at the Alberta legislature. The rally began at Beaver Hills House Park, 10440 Jasper Ave., at 11 a.m. and ended at the Alberta legislature.

Meanwhile, United We Roll For Canada led a convoy from Red Deer to Downtown Edmonton for a pro-oil and gas sector rally.

The city of Edmonton issued a statement recommending motorists avoid Jasper Avenue.
