A taxi driver is accused of raping a female passenger after her friends put her in the car outside an inner-city pub.

Anas Wajid was forced to give up his taxi licence after he was charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a car park on April 25.

The 22-year-old appeared at Parramatta Bail Court in Sydney’s west on Thursday where he was granted conditional bail.

After picking the woman up about 11.30pm, the driver allegedly took the woman to another location.

He then allegedly moved her from the cab into a Mitsubishi Lancer, police say.

Wajid then took the woman to a car park where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

‘Following the alleged assault, the man drove the woman to her Dulwich Hill residence,’ NSW Police said in a statement.

The woman reported the incident to police and officers from the Surry Hills Police Area Command launched an investigation.

The woman was taken to hospital for testing.

Following inquiries, Wajid attended Granville Police Station about 7.40pm Wednesday where he was arrested.

Officers from the Cumberland Police Area Command also went to a home at Bennelong Street in Granville where the Mitsubishi Lancer was found and seized for forensic examination.

Wajid was charged with sexual intercourse without consent and was held in custody overnight.

On Thursday he appeared via videolink to Parramatta Bail Court where he was given conditional bail with a $15,000 surety.

According to the Daily Telegraph, bail conditions outline that Wajid must report to Granville police station daily, is not to drink alcohol and must not go within 200m of the alleged victim.

He has also been told to surrender his passport and taxi license and is forbidden from working as a cab, Uber or any ride share provider.

He is set to return to Parramatta Local Court on November 21.
