Billionaire businessman James Packer, 52, broke the record for Australia’s most expensive property sale in 2015, when he offloaded his Sydney estate for $70million.

The sprawling compound, which features a huge swimming pool, manicured gardens and lavishly-designed interiors, was once actually three separate homes before James combined them into one monolithic structure.

In 2009, James paid $18million for the main house, which was designed and lived in by renowned architect Guilford Bell, and then went on to purchase two houses behind the property the following year.

Those subsequent purchases cost him $5.5million and $6.5million.  

James had bought the estate with a view to making it a family home for his then-wife, Erica, and their children Indigo, 11, Jackson, ten, and Emmanuelle, seven.

Having listing the property for sale six months earlier, the high-profile couple were no doubt relieved to finally find a buyer willing to meet their $20million asking price.
