BOLLYWOOD star Rhea Chakraborty has been arrested on a drug charge as part of an investigation into her actor-boyfriend’s recent “suicide”.
The actress’ Tuesday arrest comes nearly three months after her boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found dead in his apartment of an apparent suicide.
The charges have not yet been revealed.
Chakraborty was accused by Rajput’s family of abetting his suicide – but the actress previously denied the allegations.
The actress was sent to be in judicial custody for 14 days, Asian News International reported.
She made a plea bail, but it was rejected by the court, ANI reported.
“Whatever she told was sufficient for the arrest,” Ashok Jain, Deputy Director General of the South-Western Region of NCB said.
“We have arrested her, it means we had enough,” Jain said of evidence against Chakraborty, as reported by ANI.
The actress’ brother, Showik, and Rajput’s former house manager, Samuel Miranda, were arrested last week in connection with the same case, BBC reported.
Their charges have also not yet been revealed.
In total, nine people have been arrested in connection with the case, ANI reported.
Rajput’s body was found at his home in Mumbai on June 14.
The actor reportedly hanged himself, according to Tribune India.
Rajput was known for his acting, dancing, and charity work.
He died just a week after his former manager, Disha Salian, died after falling from a 14th-floor building.
Chakraborty and Rajput reportedly began dating in summer 2019, and moved in together in December, BBC reported.
The actress is known for her roles in the movies Half Girlfriend, Jalebi, and Super Machi.
