Channel Seven to premiere MKR one day before Nine’s MAFS

Getting the edge! Channel Seven to premiere the new season of My Kitchen Rules one day before Married At First Sight returns to rival Nine

It looks like Channel Seven will have the edge over rival network Nine in the ratings war this year.

The network have confirmed that they will launch My Kitchen Rules: The Rivals on February 2, one day before Married At First Sight premieres on Nine.

The two reality shows went head-to-head in the ratings last year, with MAFS dethroning MKR after years of the cooking competition dominating the ratings.

In addition to premiering a day before MAFS, Seven are trying to regain their ratings edge by revamping MKR.

The new season, dubbed The Rivals, will bring back fan favourites and villains from the show to battle it out against brand new contestants.

The format will also see judges Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge facing off against each other, with Manu in charge of the returnees while Colin will lead the newbies.

A trailer for the series shows Manu and Colin swapping playful insults as their teams compete for supremacy.

It begins with a voice-over of Pete Evans saying: ‘MKR is truly a competition of the rivals this year. House versus house and Colin versus Manu.’

Footage flashes of contestants arriving at a palatial mansion and taking their seats around a long dining table alongside Colin, Manu and Pete.

‘You’ve got pros,’ declared Colin, gesturing at Manu’s team.

Turning to his own team, Colin added: ‘And then you’ve got the newbies like lambs to the slaughter.’

In the next shot, Colin takes a stab at Manu in an attempt to inspire his team during a stressful cook.

‘Colin’s house is great, Manu’s house is average!’ the Dublin-born gourmand declared.

The next shot showed Manu sledging Colin as they stood face-to-face during what appears to be a dinner party.

‘I’m going to kick your butt, that’s all!’ Manu jabs.
