Clemson vs. Wake Forest score: Live game updates, college football scores, NCAA highlights, full coverage

If the first two quarters of action are any indication, No. 1 Clemson will have no trouble replacing the starters lost from last year’s national runner-up team. The Tigers’ youth movement was on display and its familiar faces were the stars on offense as the five-time ACC champions took a 27-0 lead into halftime on the road at Wake Forest.

Maintaining that championship standard is a bit easier when you have Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne leading the way. Lawrence got off to a strong start with 261 yards on 18-of-23 passing, avoiding the interceptions that plagued him early in 2019 and adding two touchdown runs to the stat line. It’s easy for the quarterback to get those free runs near the goal line when there’s so much attention on Etienne, who already is sniffing yet another 100-yard game with 94 yards on 15 carries. Etienne isn’t the only veteran who has stepped up, though, as senior Amari Rodgers leads the team with four catches and 69 receiving yards.

The new starters on the offensive line played well, and true freshman defensive linemen Bryan Bresee and Myles Murphy each registered a sack in the first half. For a series that’s been so lopsided, it wasn’t surprising to see Clemson start working in the backups early in the game and it will likely be more of their efforts in the second half that will decide the final score. Wake Forest has found spurts of success, particularly through the passing game with wide receiver Donovan Greene, but its offensive line is having trouble holding up against a group as deep and as talented as what Clemson brings to the table.

CBS Sports will be with you the entire way updating this story with the latest from Clemson vs. Wake Forest on Saturday. Keep it locked here for live updates, highlights and more throughout the game.
