Coronation Street star Sam Aston reveals he is expecting a baby BOY with wife Briony

Coronation Street star Sam Aston and his wife Briony have revealed they are expecting a baby boy.

The Chesney Brown actor, 26, and his yoga instructor wife, 25, who is 24 weeks pregnant and due in September,  announced the happy news in an interview with OK! Magazine, but admitted they had been sure they were welcoming a daughter.

Sam said: ‘We’re having a boy! It was a massive surprise when we found out, as there are loads of girls in our families, so we were adamant we were having a girl.

Briony added the couple had found out the day before lockdown, saying: ‘Sam couldn’t come with me because of the current rules, so I got the consultant to write the sex on a piece of paper and put it in an envelope and we both then sat in the car and opened it together. We were over the moon.’

The couple also revealed they had only been trying for a baby for little over a month before getting the positive result.

Sam, whose character Chesney is parenting quads on the popular ITV soap, said he and Briony would love a big family but admitted they were glad they were just expecting the one child.

Briony also discussed the sweet moment she had broken the news of her pregnancy to Sam, using a customised boiled egg board emblazoned with ‘Daddy, you’re a good egg’.

Sam said he was so invested in his football game that at first he didn’t notice the message, but when he did he was over the moon.

Sam and Briony tied the knot last year, two years after the couple announced their engagement.

Last month Sam and Briony celebrated their first wedding anniversary together while living in lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.

Posting a throwback snap from the big day, Sam wrote: ‘Trying our hardest to relive the best day of our lives happy 1 year anniversary @yoga_with_briony thank you for all the beautiful and happy memories.’

Sharing a similar snap from their wedding, Briony wrote: ‘It doesn’t matter that we’re spending our 1st Anniversary in lockdown, we’re spending it together in our home, and that’s what truly matters.’

Sam recently said that he and Briony ‘liked the idea of a big family,’ but not yet as ‘neither of them felt ready’ for children.

He told OK!: ‘We want to enjoy being married for a while first and do some more travelling.’

Sam exchanged vows with Briony in front of friends and family members at the lavish Cheshire venue Stock Farm.

The soap star recently admitted that despite their idyllic marriage, he actually ‘ended’ his relationship with the stunning yoga teacher when he was a teenager because he felt they were ‘too young’ to be together.

He told the Mirror in July: ‘Briony and I met when I was about 15 or 16. We talked through MSN messenger and then went on a date. We got together, but we were very young. I ended it – which she always likes to bring up.’

Sharing how years later they rekindled their romance, the star revealed that Briony was helping out at a drama workshop where he taught.

Sam revealed: ‘We went for a meal that night at a country pub and that was it. We’ve been together ever since.’
