Experienced doctor who moved to Brisbane from the Middle East to escape ISIS claims she can’t find a job – despite being qualified in Australia

A doctor with more than 20 years’ experience who fled her home in the Middle East because of ISIS claims she is struggling to find a job in Australia.
Manal Aqrawe, had been living in Mosul, Iraq, when the terror group took over in 2014.
She then fled to Brisbane, and despite completing medical qualifications in Australia she claims she has not been able to find a job and remains unemployed.

‘The reason was due to lack of local experience or local referees, and huge competition for limited job vacancies,’ she told the ABC.
The unemployed doctor is now on the hunt for any job she can get.
Pharmaceutical science graduate Chirag Khunt also had difficulty finding a job in his chosen field as he doesn’t have any local experience.
‘Even though I have good experience, my experience was overseas. Every day I was getting emails saying my application was unsuccessful.
‘It’s making some of our doctors or engineers end up driving taxis or Ubers.’
Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia chief executive Mohammad Al-Khafaji qualification recognition was only part of the issue.
Migrants also face uncertainty of work and greater risk of vulnerability and exploitation, the 2019 Migrant Workers’ Taskforce report.
The report also mentioned migrants feel that temporary work visas limit their employment opportunities.
