President Donald Trump joked at a closed fundraiser this week that First Lady Melania Trump might not be beside herself if he were to be seriously harmed.
The president made the crack at a fundraiser for House Republicans at the Trump hotel in Washington, where he also made jokes about some of the lawmakers.
Trump spoke about the 2017 shooting at a congressional baseball practice, where Rep. Steve Scalise was seriously injured. He spoke of seeing Scalise’s wife, Jennifer, while visiting him in the hospital.
She ‘cried her eyes out when I met her at the hospital that fateful day,’ Trump told attendees. ‘I mean not many wives would react that way to tragedy, I know mine wouldn’t,’ he joked, according to Politico.

Trump married Melania, his third wife, in 2005. Scalise is the House minority whip.
Trump also referenced Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. ‘My Kevin is always on my side,’ Trump said at the event Tuesday. On Thursday, every Republican voted against a Democratic process for an impeachment inquiry.
Trump told Indiana Rep. Greg Pence, the brother of Vice President Mike Pence: ‘”I know a guy who looks like you. How did you get that good of a seat in here ya cheap-o?” he said.
On Thursday night, it was revealed Trump and Melania Trump are changing their primary residency for tax purposes from New York to Florida.
