The attack provided stunning footage of the devastating speed of the eagle and its huge talons from the perspective of its prey.

Mr Jordan was fiddling with his drone’s controls when spotters – his wife and mother-in-law – both said ‘what’s that?’, before adding ‘bird’ and then ‘big bird’.

He said his heart started racing as he feared his $2,000 drone would be lost in any bird attack so far from the ground above the popular Maroon Bells mountain range.

Mr Jordan said: ‘Look, I may have pooped my pants a little bit, I may not have, I’ll never know. It’s fine.’

‘I think the bird will think twice about attacking something with four propellers that sounds like an angry beehive, and I learnt to wear diapers when flying in nature.’

He added: ‘There was no serious damage to the drone. A few scratches and a few new propellers were needed. The bird is fine!’
