Emmerdale actor Ash Palmisciano has said that he originally only had a three-month contract when he was cast as Moira’s son Matty Barton.

The soap star, 30, appeared on ITV’s Lorraine today as he spoke about his upcoming on-screen romance with Amy.

He explained that Matty and Amy’s friendship would soon bloom into a romance.

Ash went on to speak about the fact that he had already been on the show for two years now, telling Lorraine: “It’s crazy because when I signed up, it was just a three-month contract.

“They were kind of like, ‘So, we’ve got this idea for a character and we’ll see how it goes.’

“To still be there two years later is amazing.

“Before I was doing this I was doing any job I could – I was an elf at Christmas, I was literally a peasant at Warwick castle.

This week, Matty is intent on making things right between himself and Amy after the drama surrounding the pizza boxes.

He invites her to a pizza tasting and Amy is incredibly excited about the prospect of spending an evening with him.

But she is left downhearted after discovering that Marlon has invited others to the pizza tasting…
