Explosion at a hotel in Darwin leaves one man fighting for life in hospital

A man is in hospital fighting for his life after the hotel room he was in exploded overnight.

The 52-year-old was the sole occupant in the room at Casa on Gregory Hotel, Parap, in Darwin’s inner north, when the blast occurred at about 2.45am.

His injuries are life threatening, ABC reported.

Emergency services were called to the scene, where they found a room ‘to be extensively damaged’ in the fire.

The occupant was found still inside with significant burns and rushed to Royal Darwin Hospital.

‘He is currently being intubated in intensive care where his injuries are considered life-threatening,’ Watch Commander Michael Valladares said.

Police have cordoned off the room, which is now under investigation.

More to come.
