Fisherman in his 20s mysteriously falls from his boat and drowns at Crowdy Head on NSW north coast

A young man has died after falling out of his boat at a popular fishing spot on the New South Wales mid-north coast.

The fisherman, believed to be in his 20s, was discovered about four nautical miles off Diamond Head, south of Port Macquarie, on Wednesday afternoon.

His body was found by strangers on a nearby boat who hauled him out of the water and attempted to revive him.

They rushed him back to shore at the Crowdy Head boat ramp where they were met by volunteers from Marine Rescue New South Wales, reported the Daily Telegraph

He died a short time later despite efforts to resuscitate him using a defibrillator and oxygen. 

His four-and-a-half metre boat was found a short time later.

Police have seized the boat and will prepare a report for the coroner to determine the cause of death.

They will investigate whether the man suffered a medical episode.  

He is yet to be formally identified.
