  • Two students said her comments made them fearful and reported her
  • Hillborough County deputies found no evidence she intended to act on threat 
  • Kearns was held in police custody overnight and charged as a juvenile for making a false report 

A Florida high school student has been arrested after she allegedly told her friends she was ‘tired of the kids at school’ and wanted to shoot them. 

Damonique Kearns, 16, of Lennard High School in Ruskin was arrested Tuesday for her threat to shoot her peers, the Hillborough County Sheriff’s Office announced. 

The student’s peers came forward on Tuesday November 5 stating Kearns said she wanted to shoot some students at the school last week.

She also made a comment about wanting to build a death camp in the woods where she could make kids disappear.

School security was notified and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office then investigated the claims.

However, deputies found no evidence that Kearns meant to act on her threats. 

She was taken into custody Tuesday night on a juvenile charge of making a false report concerning planting a bomb, an explosive, or weapon of mass destruction, or concerning the use of firearms in a violent manner. 

‘The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office takes all threats of violence against students seriously, and we will continue to work with school staff to investigate these threats thoroughly,’ Sheriff Chad Chronister said. 

‘I am urging all parents to talk with their children about the seriousness of making any threats. It’s important for them to learn that even fake threats can have serious consequences and long term repercussions,’ she added.
