Hairdresser reveals how a new style can transform people's face shape and highlight their features

A hairstylist with 24 years of experience has revealed her tips for choosing the right style to suit your look.

Jurgita Malakauskaitė, from Lithuania, became a hairdresser at 16 years old and has always had an eye for what would suit her clients best.

Speaking to Bored Panda, she revealed what criteria she abides by to create the perfect style to set off her customers’ features.

Sharing before and after pictures of some of her clients, she explained that she considers not only a person’s face, but their natural features and hair texture as well.

Jurgita said finding the right haircut for a client is an exact science which she has perfected over her 24 year career.

She takes into consideration the client’s hair and eye colour as well as their complexion, jawline and body shape.

Jurgita then divides her clients into four categories – named after the four seasons: winter, spring, summer and autumn.

Winter people have dark hair colour but light eyes, while a summer person has light eyes and ashy tones in their hair.

She added that eye-colour is very important because it adds a layer of hue variations into the hair.

Jurgita, who said she thinks of herself as a kind of architect, explained: ‘It’s like creating a painting. You first analyse what colours you’ll “paint” with.

‘And only after you have all of your colours ready, after you know your client’s type and look at the shape of their face and hair texture, only then do you start “painting”.’

The hairdresser said she loves to help her clients find confidence in their looks and remind them they have to love themselves and care for their hair as much as anything else.

‘You help them understand that they have to love and take care of themselves, that hair isn’t separate from their bodies,’ she said, adding that every person’s hair is different.

The hairdresser said she believes it’s her calling to bring out people’s inner beauty and help them feel confident enough to experiment with their looks, enabling them to find what works best for them.

Jurgita told how she’d wanted to be a hairdresser since childhood, and started her career by cutting her parent’s neighbour’s hair in a small salon they set up for her.

She said she’s always had a strong sense of which styles would best suit particular face shapes and eye colours.

Jurgita said that at the core of her job is ‘making people happy’ and helping women feel more feminine.
