Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield down Jäger shots with Rick Astley on This Morning… as Phil makes VERY cheeky joke

Rick Astley got the party going during Wednesday’s edition of This Morning when he made Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield do shots with him.

The 53-year-old singer was discussing his musical comeback with the presenting duo and decided to loosen them up at the end of the interview by forcing them to down Jägermeister shots with him.

The Never Gonna Give You Up hit-maker revealed he has a superstition about necking the booze whenever he makes a TV appearance – and Holly and Phil were all too happy to oblige.

Rick explained he does it on ‘every breakfast radio, every breakfast show’ – and had already had a sneaky shot before the programme went on air.

‘No sipping!’, Rick warned them as they knocked the drinks back, prompting Phil to scoff, ‘Don’t you know us at all?’

Phil, 57, also couldn’t resist making a cheeky joke about making sweet music.

While discussing his songwriting process, Rick said: ‘I’ve got a set up in the garage, I like to turn the lights down low and bang on until I make a record.’

Phil couldn’t resist chiming in: ‘I have done that… but never made a record.’

Mocking his dad joke, Rick groaned: ‘Oh dear, oh dear!’.

The 80s icon made a return to music in 2001 and again in 2016 and has just released a best of record, aptly titled The Best of Me.

Explaining why he wanted to release the album, he said: ‘Because obviously everything is on the internet, if you make a greatest hits album it’s already on the internet so I think it’s fair to do something new.

‘So I recorded songs and made new ones. [Re-recording hits is] kind of scary sometimes so I don’t want to disappoint people, I’ve kept the melody so if somebody knows the tune they can sing along is they want.

‘We’ve slowed it down and put it in a different key, so it’s a little darker.’

'No sipping!': Rick warned the duo not to cheat as they knocked the drinks back, prompting Phil to scoff, 'Don't you know us at all?'

Rick retired in 1993, just six years after he first hit the big time, but insists he has zero regrets.

On leaving the music industry, Rick said: ‘Pop music is intense, either you put everything in it and give all your life to it or you don’t have hits…

‘I had enough after four or five years. There’s a moment where it ended for sure, I was going to Heathrow to go to New York I had just had enough.

‘I stopped the car and had a bit of a tear in my eye and said I can’t do this now.’
