South Park returned to the US last night for a 24th season with a special one-hour episode all about the coronavirus pandemic.

Since the outbreak began, fans of the satirical comedy have been keen to know what their favourite Coloradan schoolboys make of it.

There have been many predictions made as to which topics the show will cover include anti-maskers, toilet paper, and even Tiger King.

In the US, the episode was broadcast on Comedy Central at 8pm ET and 7pm CT on September 30. Fans who missed the special can watch it on HBO Max.

The special marked the show’s first-ever episode in its 23-year history to run longer than half an hour.

However, UK fans will have to wait a bit longer before they can see it.

HBO Max is not currently available in the UK, as Sky has an exclusivity deal with HBO, so that the channel’s shows are first broadcast on Sky (usually on Sky Atlantic).

The exclusivity deal covers many American titles on NOW TV – with South Park being one of them.

A spokesperson for NOW TV confirmed the 24th season of the cartoon – including the pandemic special – will be on the streaming platform later this year.

No official date has been announced yet.

What happens in the pandemic special?

Comedy Central has released a brief trailer revealing how the residents of South Park will be adapting to life during these times.

Eric Cartman has been loving life in lockdown, and gets angry when the easing of restrictions means he has to change out of his pyjamas and go back to school.

Kyle is horrified when Eric has appeared without a mask and warns him about spreading germs

The official synopsis reads: ‘Randy comes to terms with his role in the COVID-19 outbreak as the on-going pandemic presents continued challenges to the citizens of South Park.

‘The kids happily head back to school but nothing resembles the normal that they once knew; not their teachers, not their homeroom, not even Eric Cartman.’
