Jodie Comer was praised as ‘perfect’ by viewers after her episode of Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads.

The dark monologues, which were initially aired in 1988, were filmed on the EastEnders lot in the midst of lockdown, and brought back to life the hugely popular series.

In Jodie’s episode Her Big Chance, Jodie plays the role of wannabe actress Lesley, who believes that she has finally been given her break into the industry.

However, it soon becomes apparent that her naivety has got the best of her, and she is being coerced to appear in a soft porn film.

Defiant until the end, Lesley doesn’t quite realise what she has got herself in for and tries to remain professional in the face of the misogynistic environment where she is propositioned and told to remove her clothing.

The piece was initially performed by Julie Walters in 1988, and fans noted how they could see the iconic star within Jodie’s performance, 32 years later.

As the episode came to an end, viewers flocked to praise Jodie’s moving performance

Her Big Chance was one of two of Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads monologues to air on BBC One tonight, with the second being Making Sandwiches.

Starring theatre performer Lucian Msamati, the story followed a kindly-seeming gardener who spoke about his growing friendship with a young girl and her mother.

However, after warming to the character, viewers were horrified when it was revealed that the character was actually a pedophile, and had assaulted the youngster.

Talking Heads is available now on BBC iPlayer.
