LIVE updates: Large police presence in Burnage following vigil close to crash site where teen died

There is currently a large police presence in Burnage less than 24 hours after a horror crash which killed a teenager.

A number of officers are working at the corner of Fog Lane and Kingsway.

Officers have also taped off the entrance to a house in the corner of Fog Lane and Kingsway.

The scene is being guarded by uniformed officers.

The ongoing police activity is not far from the site of the fatal crash which claimed the life of 17-year-old Deon Simpson on Sunday night (November 3).

Deon was in a car when it ploughed into a property at the junction of Burnage Lane and Lane End Road after police attempted to stop the car at around 9.25pm.

Two young men inside the vehicle were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Deon, who is understood to have lived in Gorton having grown up in Moss Side, later died.

The other person remains in hospital.

A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and an investigation into the collision has been launched.

Dozens of Deon’s friends have taken to Facebook to pay tribute and flowers have been left at the scene.

It is understood that a vigil was due to take place at the crash site this evening.

Details of the ongoing incident tonight have not yet been released.
