Liverpool Nike kit: When does new Liverpool 2020/21 kit go on sale?

Liverpool have today unveiled their new kit for the upcoming 2020/21 season. The kit has been produced by Nike, who agreed a deal to become the club’s shirt manufacturer back in January.

A statement on Liverpool’s website reads: “The first Reds strip to be designed by Nike as part of the new partnership, the home shirt sees a traditional vibrant red jersey, accented with teal and white around the V-neck collar and sleeves.

“Red, white and teal has been a traditional colourway used throughout the club’s history, relating to the traditional crest, while also appearing as a prominent feature on the iconic LFC jersey since the club was founded in 1892.

“Teal is also a colour that represents the city of Liverpool, reminiscent of the shade of the Liver Bird that sits at the top of the famous Liver Building.”

Billy Hogan, managing director and chief commercial officer at LFC, added: “We said back in January, when we first announced the new partnership with Nike, about our expectations on them becoming an incredible partner for the club.

Speaking about the kit’s design, Scott Munson, VP of Nike Football Apparel, said: “At the start of any new partnership it is important to show maximum respect and we have done that by concentrating on the club’s core identity.

“What you have is a clean, strong design, which any fan would immediately know belongs to Liverpool.”

Reds centre-back Virgil van Dijk said: “I’ve been part of the Nike family for a while now and have an incredible relationship with them.

“I’m very familiar with the quality of the design and innovation that goes into making a kit like this.

“Stepping out as champions next season in this kit will be really special.”

Liverpool’s new kit has been met with mixed reactions from fans on social media.

One wrote on Twitter: “I reckon this will be the biggest selling kit in Liverpool’s history.

“PL champions, World champions, Nike… Great combination.”

Another wrote: “Liverpool FC’s new Nike home kit for the 2020-21 season draws inspiration from the club’s history and identity.

“The traditional vibrant red shirt features teal and white around its V-neck collar and sleeves – similar to the Reds’ home jerseys between 1993 and 1996.”

A third added: “Fire whoever designed the 2021 Liverpool home kit @Nike.”

A fourth commented: “Considering all the hype of switching to Nike, this is a very underwhelming and uninspiring kit launch.”
