The elderly victim of a gruesome alleged murder in Blackpool has been named by police as 71-year-old Marlene McCabe.
Officers were called just before 6pm yesterday to West Park Drive in the town Ms McCabe was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 25-year-old man, whom police believe knew Ms McCabe, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Lancashire Police said today the victim was found with ‘serious head and facial injuries’ but MailOnline understands that rumours circulating on social media that the pensioner’s body may have been desecrated or even decapitated are not accurate.

Today one resident told MailOnline Ms McCabe was ‘a lovely woman’ amid widespread shock in the community at the violent crime.
Ms McCabe’s neighbour Ronnie, 80 said: ‘She seemed a lovely lady, very friendly and neighbourly and would let on to passers by.
‘Her garden has always been well kept, and she kept good care of herself too – when I saw her she was always dressed smartly.’
Another local said: ‘I never got to properly chat to Marlene but she was such a pretty lady and looked well for her age.
‘She kept her garden nice and tidy and her house was gorgeous too.
‘What I thought was really unique about her was that she had a cat and used to walk it with a lead.’
In investigation was launched by Lanacashire Police’s major investigations team last night
Detectives are continuing their enquiries and urging anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Zoe Russo, of Lancashire Police’s Major Investigation Team, said: ‘These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts are very much with Marlene McCabe and her family.
‘They are being supported by specially trained officers at this extremely difficult and distressing time.
‘While we have made an arrest, we are continuing with our enquiries and would ask anyone with information relevant to the investigation to come forward.
‘It is believed both parties were known to each other and I would like to reassure the community there is no wider threat.
‘I would also like to thank residents in the area for their support and patience while we continue our investigation.’
