The man only stopped after another passenger boarded the train, allowing the girl to disembark and report the assault to police.

After an investigation the man was arrested by police on Tuesday at Long Bay Correctional Centre in Sydney’s east.

The 41-year-old was officially charged with enacting a sexual act without consent.

The man was scheduled to appear via video link in Cambelltown Local Court on Wednesday.

He was arrested as part of Operation Artemis, which focuses on sexual offences on public transport.
