Meghan King Edmonds has branded her ex Jim ‘controlling’ in her first interview since the nanny scandal prompted him to file for divorce.
Jim, 49, filed for divorce from Meghan, 35, a day after their five year wedding anniversary last month, and now the reality star has given insight into her troubled marriage with the MLB player in an interview with Us Weekly.
Meghan insisted she was ‘sick of the abuse’ she had been subjected to as of late, claiming her husband had been insulting her ‘for a battery of made-up indiscretions’.
She speaks: Meghan King Edmonds gave her first interview since her estranged husband Jim Edmonds filed for divorce nearly two weeks ago, on Monday with Us Weekly
‘I have endured prolific controlling by Jim and it isn’t slowing down,’ she said. ‘Even when I make an unassuming post on Instagram, he hurls insults at me for a battery of made-up indiscretions. I’m sick of the abuse and I won’t engage anymore — and I don’t have to
It has been a painful year for the couple, after it was revealed Jim had been engaging in a sexting relationship with another woman. The MLB star admitted he did have an inappropriate relationship with a woman outside his marriage, but insisted it never got physical.
Amid the scandal, one of their twins was diagnosed with irreversible brain damage, and the couple rallied together as a family.
‘I wanted to work things out really badly,’ she said of going forward after the scandal. ‘I had ignored his bad behavior and swept it under the rug for so long but after he sexted, it became impossible for me to continue to do so.’
Couldn’t make it work: She explained ‘I wanted to work things out really badly. I had ignored his bad behavior and swept it under the rug for so long but after he sexted, it became impossible for me to continue to do so,’ she said referencing his sexting scandal that surfaced earlier this year
‘Instead of taking accountability, becoming transparent and making sacrifices to heal the hurt he caused me,’ the mother-of-three said. ‘He went the exact opposite direction and instead became a victim.’
Meghan and Jim share 17-month-old twins Hart and Hayes, and daughter Aspen who turns three next month; Jim also has four children from a previous marriage.
The former Real Housewives of Orange County star said Jim hasn’t seen the kids since he left and it is their daughter who is noticing a shift.
‘He hasn’t seen them since he left me — in no part due to any reluctance on my part — but hopefully, he will see them soon.’
Meghan explained: ‘In true toddler fashion, Aspen is especially concerned with her broken iPad (he reported it stolen so it’s wiped clean and unable to be reactivated except by the person who activated it originally which is Jim) and she can’t use it anymore but I kind of like that she has to make creative fun. The twins are unaware anything happened.’
Dad’s gone: ‘He hasn’t seen them since he left me — in no part due to any reluctance on my part — but hopefully, he will see them soon,’ referencing their daughter Aspen, almost three, and 17-month-old sons Hayes and Hart
The star said she had to tell their daughter about the divorce, after Jim cleared out his closet.
‘I don’t think it’s occurred to him that seeing his empty closet could scar our toddler,’ she said.
‘I had to quickly come up with a way to tell Aspen we are getting divorced when Jim cleared out his closet the day after he told me he was leaving… Anyway, Jim hasn’t asked about how I told her or how she took the news.’
The divorce filing and their most recent separation came after Meghan privately accused her estranged husband of having an affair with their live in nanny.
Both Jim and the Carly Wilson, 22, denied an affair and his daughter Hayley, also attacked Meghan on social media.
Left on me: The 35-year-old said she had to tell their daughter about the divorce, after Jim cleared out his closed ‘I don’t think it’s occurred to him that seeing his empty closet could scar our toddler’
Jim denied the allegations, and referred to Wilson as a daughter to him. The description perplexed Meghan.
‘I thought the point of a nanny is for them to act as if our children are her surrogate children while we are away,’ she said, ‘So his statement describing her as a daughter was confusing to me…I understand that to bring a nanny into our home is to embrace them as a member of our family in some ways, but the ‘daughter’ reference is still perplexing.’
She added: ‘My husband has seven children so I don’t understand why or how he’d see a hired childcare provider as an additional child. To call her a daughter flagrantly crosses the lines of a professional relationship with respectable boundaries.’
The former reality TV star did defend her private suspicions of a relationship and blamed the nanny, her husband and his daughter for blowing up that story.
I was within bounds: On his alleged affair with their nanny, that he denied, calling her like a daughter she said ‘My husband has seven children so I don’t understand why or how he’d see a hired childcare provider as an additional child. To call her a daughter flagrantly crosses the lines of a professional relationship with respectable boundaries.’
‘I only ever privately alleged that Carly and my husband had an inappropriate relationship,’ Meghan said. ‘Also, is it kind to secretly hang out with your boss’ husband at a bar until 1:30 a.m. and then delete all texts between the two of you? Is that putting my children first?’
She was hurt by the young Edmonds comments since she and Hayley were close when her mom was alive, and she credits herself with being part of Hayley’s completion of high school. Jim’s first wife Lee Ann Horton died in 2015.
‘This was just plain sad to me.,’ she said. ‘I enrolled Hayley in school in St. Louis and she lived with us, and when she wanted to move back to California, I moved back with her. She lived with me and I enrolled her in high school there.’
Meghan added: ‘Jimmy has said in the past that the only reason she has her diploma is due to my efforts.’
Child support: A fan recently commented on the father-of-seven’s Instagram claiming Meghan ‘will never have to worry about money.’ To which he responded, ‘Yes, she will,’ she signed a prenup in 2014 but it does not cover child support
A fan recently commented on the father-of-seven’s Instagram claiming Meghan ‘will never have to worry about money.’ To which he responded, ‘Yes, she will.’
Responding the claim, Meghan said ‘It saddens me that the father of my children would so hostilely and haughtily say I should be worried about money, even during a time of anger. I don’t see that as putting our children first which has and always will be my first priority.’
Though she signed a prenup back when they married in 2014, she explained ‘it doesn’t pertain to child support or custody.’
Jim filed for divorce after Meghan claimed he had an affair, a tiring time where he admitted to feeling ’embarrassed’ and ’emotionally exhausted’ due to the onslaught of accusations.
‘The last couple years have been rough on my wife and me for many reasons,’ he told People magazine. ‘Marriage is difficult but add three small children under three, two adolescent children, two adult children, building a house and two busy, hard-working spouses and the stress of living our lives in the public eye.
