A lucky punter has won almost $800,000 with an incredible bet on the Melbourne Cup.
The man, who has not been named, correctly predicted the top four horses in the nation’s biggest race.
His bet of $10 – at odds of 79,300 to 1 – returned $793,000.

The punter only won his bet after the finish places were re-ordered following a protest.
Vow And Declare crossed the line first, with Master Of Reality second, Prince Of Arran third and Il Paradiso fourth.
How did the punter win almost $800,000?
The punter won by correctly guessing the top four horses in the race in order.
The odds for Vow and Declare, Prince of Aran, II Paradiso and Master of Reality to be the top four were $79,300.
The punter put $10 on, meaning he won $793,000.
If anyone bet $1 on the order of the first three horses correctly they would have won $2,900.
Guessing the top two would have paid out $175.
But Master Of Reality, ridden by 49-year-old Frankie Dettori, was demoted to fourth after stewards ruled the horse nudged Il Paradiso in the home straight.
Prince Of Arran was eventually placed second and Il Paradiso moved up the order to third to give the punter’s dream finish of Vow And Declare, Prince Of Arran, Il Paradiso and Master Of Reality.
The man’s lucky bet was revealed by Sportsbet, which does not name its punters.
‘Safe to say our punter would’ve been incredibly happy with Frankie Dettori’s aggressive ride. This is the modern day rags to riches story,’ said Rich Hummerston of Sportsbet.
There were some other big wins on the day, including one punter who scored $90,000 with a $20 bet.
The man correctly bet on Richmond to win the AFL grand final, the Sydney Roosters to win the NRL grand final and Vow And Declare to win the Cup, with odds of $4,522.50 in February.
The biggest win from betting on Vow And Declare to win at $14.50 odds came from one lucky punter’s $20,000 bet which returned $290,000.
Another punter put down $17,000 to take home $246,500.
Vow and Declare jumped from barrier 21 and had previously picked up $1,072,690 in prize money from 12 starts with three wins, three seconds and two thirds.
Jockey Williams claimed his first Melbourne Cup victory after 15 attempts, and dedicated the win to those who had trained his winning horse back in stables.
‘I don’t want to name everyone in the stable but with all their hard work, we love this horse,’ he said.
‘Thank you very much guys. It was a privilege to ride him today. We had a difficult barrier draw.
‘We know what we can do. Great to be associated with a great horse like this horse.’
For Williams the win means he has completed the ‘Grand Slam’ of Australia’s big races, having already bagged a Caulfield Cup, Golden Slipper and Cox Plate.
Vow and Declare (pictured winning the Melbourne Cup on the far right) had been considered one of Australia’s best hopes of besting a field packed with international contenders
