Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown launched her own beauty line, florence by mills, in 2019, and the products are always her go-to when creating a new makeup look. However, we couldn’t help but notice that when Millie showed off her “glow-to” end of summer look in an Instagram tutorial video, she was missing one very important step: Sunscreen!
In the six-minute video, Millie teaches her followers how to recreate her favorite dewy makeup look — with a little help from her dog, Luna. MBB’s tutorial is simple and, as expected, comprised entirely of florence by mills products. She begins with her line’s Get That Grime Face Scrub, which she says she uses about three times a week to refresh and exfoliate her skin (that might be too much for most people but it seems to work for MBB!)
Next is her “favorite part” of her skincare routine: Moisturizer. She uses her Dreamy Dew Hydrating Face Moisturizer and applies it all over her face. Millie then moves on to her Like a Light Skin Tint, but wait a minute… where’s the sunscreen? While the florence by mills’s Skin Tint does have titanium dioxide in its list of ingredients, which may offer some sun protection, Millie isn’t using any actual SPF in her routine, and that’s what set off the alarm bells in our heads.
As you probably know, sunscreen is a majorly important part of any skincare routine, even when you’re not going outside. Even the blue light from your phone and tablets can impact your skin’s health! “HEV light has been shown to penetrate into the skin to even deeper levels than ultraviolet light. While it is associated with premature aging, fortunately, it has not been shown to cause skin cancers,” dermatologist Joshua Zeichner told Teen Vogue.
The derms we spoke to recommend using an SPF to protect your skin from UVA rays and blue light alike, and Zeichner recommends “layering” tinted moisturizers or CC creams with SPF over your sunscreen for added protection. Finding a sunscreen you (and your skin) like should be a pivotal part of any skincare routine, and should be used each and every day, no matter what (and, yes, that includes age).
Millie’s line doesn’t contain any products with SPF, so we’re hoping that in her day-to-day life, she uses a sunscreen outside the florence by mills umbrella and was only skipping that important step to show off her favorite products. Millie, if you need some recs, we’ve got you!
