Motorcycling community mourn the death of legendary rider named ‘Pop’ after he was killed when a car ‘slammed into a group of his mates’

  • Wes Carlton, 55, was knocked from his bike while riding with group on Sunday 
  • He died at the scene, while others were rushed to hospital with serious injuries
  • Mr Carlton, known as ‘Pop’, has been remembered as ‘a true gentleman’

A motorcyclist named ‘Pop’ who killed after a horror crash while touring Australia with his club has been remembered as ‘a true gentleman’.

Wes Carlton, 55, was knocked from his bike while riding along Summerland Way near Runnymede Road, northern New South Wales, on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called, however, he died at the scene. 

He had been riding with six other members of the Sons of the Southern Cross social motorcycle club when the crash happened.

Two other members suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision.

The other riders, aged 52 and 53, were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

‘It is with heavy heart and many tears that we must confirm that the crash in Kyogle in NSW involved our brothers,’ the group shared on Facebook.

‘Saddest of all is the passing of Pop – Wes Carlton – as a result of his injuries which has left the remainder of the chapter, and the club Australia wide shattered. 

‘We offer truly heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and workmates, all of whom held Pop in the highest regard.’

His death has rocked the riding community, with many sharing their heartfelt tributes online.

‘Until we meet again Wes Carlton. Fly high and ride free my little friend,’ one wrote.

‘RIP Pop, you’ll forever be remembered by all those whose paths you crossed in the community. You always put a smile on our faces. A true gentleman, that’s how I’ll always remember you,’ another person wrote.

‘RIP Pop only met you once but you left me with great memories,’ wrote another.

The driver of the car, a 52-year-old man, had to be cut from the wreckage. 

He was taken to hospital for treatment and mandatory testing. 

Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
