A clever health food aficionado has shared her foolproof trick for keeping avocados fresh for months, and you’ll only need a freezer and some hot water.
Bethany Ugarte, who is based in California, uploaded an Instagram video showing exactly what she did to keep her Hass avocado ripe and ready to eat after four months in the freezer.
Notorious for being ill-timed in their ripening, Bethany was determined to use her avocado for cooking after freezing it in time 121 days ago.

She showed how it was soft to the touch – which can sometimes mean it has browned inside – and she was eager to see what state it was in.
But first, she moved over to her kitchen sink.
‘Run it under hot water and let it sit on the counter for thirty minutes and it’ll be just like new,’ she told her followers.
Returning half an hour later Bethany noted that the avocado had defrosted and was ready to be examined.
Taking a sharp knife she cut just beyond the skin, slicing it into four quadrants.
She slowly peeled back the skin to reveal a vibrant and perfectly green avocado that looked as it had done when she first bought it (pictured)
The secret, she said, is placing it in the freezer the moment you start to feel it ripen (pictured)
‘I can press my fingers into it so I know I can cut it open with a knife now,’ she said.

By heating it up with hot water the avocados natural defrosting process is sped up so as not to give the fruit time to go brown and mushy.
It also helps the food product return to its natural softness seamlessly.
This is good knowledge to have for those now living in self-isolation because it means you can purchase a few avocados without worrying if they will go ‘off’.
Simple place them in the freezer until you’re ready to eat them.
