Johanna Konta: Where is Johanna Konta from?

Konta’s nationality became the subject of debate at the 2016 Australian Open after she was labelled a “Plastic Brit”.

A Plastic Brit is a pejorative term used to describe athletes who choose to represent Great Britain in international sport despite having personal connections to another country.

Alluding to her Australian roots, Hungarian ancestry, British passport and Spanish training base, Konta has previously joked: “I’m pretty much the female version of Jason Bourne.”

Konta said it was “a compliment for you guys to be interested in my Australian roots”, but that she was “very pleased to be representing Great Britain … where I grew up essentially”.
