Our Girl left viewers heartbroken as it returned tonight with Michelle Keegan’s Sergeant Georgie Lane back in action.
While many audiences were delighted to see the show back on television screens, the first episode of series four really had us fighting back the tears when a flashback aired to show dead character Elvis being killed after a device exploded next to him.
The tragic moment first aired back in 2018 and it left Georgie broken as the love of her life – who she was engaged to be married to – was cruelly taken away from her in an instant.
Rocked by the emotional death, audiences flocked to Twitter to share their upset, with one writing: ‘Can’t deal with these Elvis flashback!’
Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘I forgot how crushed I was by Elvis’ death… I don’t think I’m over it anymore than Georgie is.’
Our Girl series four is made up of six episodes that are set to air weekly.
The story now follows Georgie as she’s promoted to Sergeant and follows her as she lives at home with her family in Manchester and works training medics.
At first, she decides against joining the 2 Section on a tour of Afghanistan.
However, a traumatic event leads her to consider, and makes her realise she must face her fears and join up with her crew once more.
More: Michelle Keegan
Despite the flashback heartache, many fans were delighted to see the series and are excited to see what happens next.
‘Amazing first episode. Michelle looking spectacular and smashing it out of the park again! Also great to see both new and familiar faces back for the new series,’ enthused one.
Our Girl continues on Tuesday at 9pm on BBC Three.
