Nicole Kidman calls out a reporter’s ‘sexist’ question after being asked about ex-husband Tom Cruise

Nicole Kidman has criticised a reporter, labelling her question as ‘sexist’, after being asked about ex-husband Tom Cruise.

The 54-year-old actress was speaking to The Guardian on Sunday to promote her new movie, Being the Ricardos.

Nicole portrays Lucille Ball in the biopic, and was talking about the comedic actress’ failed relationship with Desi Arnaz.

Speaking out: Nicole Kidman has criticised a reporter, labelling her question as ‘sexist’, after being asked about ex-husband Tom Cruise

‘It’s about a creative and romantic relationship that doesn’t work out. But from it comes some extraordinary things. And I love that. I love that it’s not a happy ending,’ she explained.

‘This film says you can make an extraordinary relationship thrive and leave remnants of it that exist forever. Yeah, that’s really gorgeous.

‘You can’t make people behave how you want them to, and sometimes you’re going to fall in love with someone who isn’t going to be the person you spend the rest of your life with. And I think that’s all very relatable.’

The reporter then said she asked ‘with exquisite care’ if Nicole was also referring to her previous relationship with Tom, 59.

‘Oh, my God, no, no. Absolutely not. No. I mean, that’s, honestly, so long ago that that isn’t in this equation. So no,’ she responded, with the reporter noting that the Oscar-winning actress was ‘angry’ about the assumption.

‘And I would ask not to be pigeonholed that way, either. It feels to me almost sexist, because I’m not sure anyone would say that to a man. And at some point, you go, “Give me my life. In its own right.”‘

Nicole married Tom in 1990, and they divorced 11 years later in 2001, after adopting two children together, daughter Isabella, 29, and son Connor, 26.

She’s now happily married to Keith Urban, who she wed in 2006, and they have two daughters together, Sunday, 13, and Faith, 11.

In a cover interview for the September issue of Marie Claire Australia, Nicole said it was a ‘miracle’ that she and Keith, 54, found each other.

‘Two Aussies born in the same year, but living in different worlds and cities, how did that happen? It was meant to be,’ she said.

The Nine Perfect Strangers star first met Keith at the G’Day USA Gala in Los Angeles back in January 2005.

She later revealed that it had taken the One Too Many singer four months after their initial meeting to call her and ask her out on a date.
