Australians have shared photos of the most unique features and hidden rooms in their houses, from a ‘shaving step’ in the shower to a ‘glow mirror’ in the powder room.
A home decorator from Brisbane, Queensland, placed a call out on Facebook for people to share the most ‘awesome’ part of their home that no one else has – and she wasn’t disappointed.
Hundreds of comments flooded in with images of TV units set inside walls, box beds created specifically for tiny rooms and a storage container built into the porch for shoes to be kept.
Many of them were designed to make life easier – like a laundry chute on the second floor – while others – like a waterfall flowing into the backyard pool – were just an aesthetic touch.

Inset tech: ‘I’m not sure if others have it or not but when my partner did the lounge room he made it so the TV can be in the wall. It makes the lounge room look so much bigger’
Keeping things cosy! ‘I’m sure I’m not the only one but we made box beds for our boys small bedrooms so that we could fit a king single bed, two wardrobes either side, storage underneath and still have room for a good sized desk,’ this woman wrote
I’m spinning around: ‘It’s not all that unique but I love the Lazy Susan in the corner cupboard of our laundry, it makes things easier to access’

That’ll come in handy! ‘I have a second niche in my bathroom for shaving my legs… you just rest your foot on it. I’m getting too old to be bending over too much,’ this woman wrote
Having a handyman around sure if helpful: ‘Hubby built in storage for our shoes on the porch. No shoes at the front door anymore’
Don’t fall in! ‘I have a two storey house and laundry on the lower level. When building the bathroom I made a laundry chute for ease’
Feeling like you’re on holiday: One woman placed a window from the lounge room overlooking the pool so she watch the children from inside and watch TV at the same time
What’s hidden behind? One woman created a screen to hide her appliances in the kitchen
Ta-DA! ‘It’s not that no one else has one but I do love our appliance cupboard. It was an expensive luxury but has repaid us ten fold in tidiness and convenience
Time to boogie: ‘We have a dance studio. It’s great for the kids parties. It was a wasted space off the garage under the house so with three daughters who dance we fitted it out with some mirrors’
A big time saver! ‘Concealed hanging rail in my laundry for school uniforms. Saves having to peg them outside on the line. Straight from the washing machine to the coat hanger’
Making sure everything has a place: ‘Pan drawer on one side of stove and utensils with oil bottles on the other side’
Who needs the local pub! ‘We have a fold down bar in the back fence so we can make the most of our view’
