Police evacuate residents and seal off streets after finding ‘homemade explosive device’ in pre-planned raid
People have been evacuated from houses and businesses in a Greater Manchester town after a ‘homemade explosive device’ was found by police.
The device was discovered during a pre-planned dawn raid this morning in Ramsbottom.
Three people were arrested on suspicion of making explosive devices and are in custody and bomb disposal experts are on the scene.
Several streets are cordoned off while the device is made safe, reported the Manchester Evening News.
Superintendent Stasia Osiowy, of Lancashire East Police, said: ‘We have evacuated a number of properties as a precautionary measure but there is not believed to be any immediate threat.
‘We will endeavour to return people to their homes as soon as possible.’
