Power Book 2: Ghost episode one spoilers follow – including its ending.
Power spin-off Power Book II: Ghost kicked off Sunday, September 6 and is set directly after the events that took place in Power’s explosive season-six finale, where the “who shot Ghost” mystery was finally solved.
And in case you have been living under a rock, Ghost was murdered by his own son Tariq St Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr) who decided he would step up to be the new man of the St Patrick family – causing a lot of collateral damage.
His dying father told the only witness and best pal Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) to “let him go”, Tariq blackmailed Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson), and Tasha St Patrick (Naturi Naughton) took the fall after her plan to frame her new boyfriend Quinton (Tyrone Marshall Brown) backfired – earning Tasha a one-way ticket straight to jail.
Final warning: Power Book II: Ghost episode one spoilers follow…
She eventually did after much convincing from McLean, and with very few scapegoats left she named Tommy as her accomplice, landing Tasha in deeper water by bringing her charge up to Kingpin (which carries the death penalty), the scorned Cooper Saxe delivering the fatal blow.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy Naturi Naughton described her initial reaction to finding out the news: “I was like dang, Tasha. It’s shady, that’s crazy.”
Also revealing what consequences that may bring for the St Patricks:
“That is to be determined. Let’s just say that Tariq and Tasha have to be wise, about who they name and try to throw under the bus. And at the time Tasha’s just like she has no other choice because everyone else is dead, everyone else that could have killed Ghost is not alive anymore so he’s kind of her only option at this point. Tommy in her mind and she’s willing to take that chance,” she said.
“You know to be honest Tasha is a mama bear that will do whatever to protect her children. And if it’s either, you know, me (Tasha) staying in prison or putting Tariq in prison, that’s not a choice for me (Tasha) so I’m like, okay, it’s Tommy. Now whether that works or not. The audience will have to wait and see.”
Michael Rainey Jr described what could happen if Tommy finds out as “crazy”, saying: “We know Tommy’s crazy so who knows, could be some pretty deep stuff for those two especially if Tommy finds out. Who knows, let’s see.”
On the question of whether we could see a crossover into Power Book IV: Force, Michael said: “Hopefully, honestly, that would be pretty cool. You know. Tommy, that’d be pretty lit. I want to see my uncle.”
The first episode also introduced us to a host of new characters such as Tariq’s teachers Jabari Reynolds (Justin Marcel McManus) and Carrie Milgram (Melanie Liburd), college friend Lauren (Paige Hurd) and mentee Zeke Tejada (Daniel Bellomy) along with his family Cane Tejada (Woody McClain), sister Diana Tejada (LaToya Tonodeo) and their ‘iron-fisted’ mother Monet (Mary J Blige).
When quizzed about potential love interests, Michael Rainey Jr gave us an idea on what to expect from his blossoming relationships with Effie, Lauren and Diana saying: “Who knows, you know, it’s three possible love interests, who knows where, who knows who he ends up going with. You know what I mean he’s got options, so you’ve got to weigh them up.”
Power aired on Starz in the US, and is available on Netflix in the UK.
