Prince Harry is relying on Meghan Markle’s mother for advice and support in Princess Diana’s absence as he transitions from his role as a senior working royal, a source has claimed.

Doria Ragland, 63, who lives in LA, is thought to have spent part of Prince Harry, 35, and Meghan’s, 38, six-week Christmas break in Vancouver Island with the couple and their son Archie.

And now a royal source has revealed that the Duke of Sussex has grown incredibly close to Doria, who has been a ‘tower of strength’ for the couple over the past few months.

The source told The Sun: ‘Harry obviously doesn’t have a mum whom he can turn to for advice, but he has always been incredibly close to Doria and never more so than now.’

The couple are said to have been in constant touch with the LA-based yoga teacher, who has been advising them on their decision to leave their roles as working royals.

The source said Prince Harry has a huge amount of respect for Doria and her judgement, so she has been kept constantly in the loop about their plans to quit.

The source said: ‘Harry has a huge amount of respect for her and for her judgement which is why he and Meghan have both spoken to her throughout about what they planned to do.’

They also revealed that while Doria supports the couple wholeheartedly, she  told them to be mindful about their choices because it’s likely that there’s no going back.

Prince Harry and Doria also reportedly bonded over their shared priority of wanting Meghan to be happy, making their relationship stronger than ever.

The Duke of Sussex has openly spoken of his grief for his mother in several speeches over the past few months.

On Sunday night the Duke of Sussex said he was ‘taking a leap of faith’ in stepping back from his life as a member of the royal family, but ‘there really was no other option’.

Harry gave an emotional speech, where he told the ‘truth’ about leaving royal duties behind in a bid for a ‘more peaceful life’ for his family.

He said: ‘I was born into this life and it is a great honour to serve my country and the Queen. When I lost my mum 23 years ago you took me under your wing.’

And in October during ITV’s explosive documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Prince Harry spoke about the ‘festering wound’ his mother’s death left in his life.

In a heartbreaking interview, the Duke told ITV News at Ten anchor, Tom Bradby, that every click and flash of a camera in the public eye gives him ‘the worst reminder of her life as opposed to the best’.

Last night Prince Harry arrived in Canada to begin his new life in Canada with Meghan and their eight-month-old son Archie away from the Royal Family.

It has been predicted that Meghan’s mother will be more actively involved in Archie’s upbringing after the move.

Now he will no longer use his courtesy HRH title – although the Queen did not formally strip it. He will be known simply as the Duke of Sussex.

Critics have accused the couple of turning their backs on the monarchy to enjoy the freedom of being able to take on commercial ventures.
