The driver of a pick-up truck involved in a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Revelstoke has died.

RCMP tell Castanet the pick-up collided with a tractor-trailer 35 kms east of Revelstoke at 7:40 p.m. The driver of the pick-up was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the commercial vehicle sustained serious neck and back injuries and was transported to hospital in Revelstoke.

The Trans Canada East Traffic Services unit of the RCMP arrived spent hours on the scene investigating the collision. Eyewitness reports suggest the pick-up collided head on into the tractor-trailerr. RCMP indicate alcohol may have been a factor.

Road conditions were rated as “good winter driving” with temperatures at approximately -5 C with clear roads., and excellent visibility.

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed until the investigation was concluded and the vehicles could be removed from the road. The road was re-opened by approximately 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday January 21, 2020.
