Reaction from Mowbray following Rovers Carabao Cup exit, including talk on Ayala

Blackburn Rovers were left to rue a catalogue of missed chances as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.

Ryan Fraser’s first goal for Newcastle was the difference between the two sides, with the winger producing a delightfully-timed run in behind the Rovers defence and he dispatched beyond the on-rushing Thomas Kaminski.

Rovers created a plethora of chances across the 90 minutes, with Tony Mowbray’s side mustering 13 shots on goal in comparison to Newcastle’s five, but ultimately they couldn’t muster a breakthrough that they perhaps deserved.

Tyrhys Dolan impressed on his first start, while there were opportunities for Harry Chapman and John Buckley late on.
