Russian soldiers descend on Red Square as they hold dress rehearsals for a huge military event to mark the 78th anniversary of the 1941 October Revolution Parade

  • It is the anniversary of the October Revolution when soldiers marched to the front line in World War Two
  • At the time the parade was put on to increase the morale of the Russian troops and to give people hope
  • The parade features soldiers, cadets as well as famous Katyusha multiple rocket launchers and T-34 tanks 

Russian soldiers have gathered in Red Square in Moscow during dress rehearsals for a military event marking the 78th anniversary of the 1941 October Revolution Parade.

The event is to mark the anniversary of the November 7th parade which was when Soviet soldiers marched through the Red Square to the front lines during World War Two.

In 1941 before the commencement of the parade, Joseph Stalin delivered a historic address to the participants and to the entire Soviet nation. Soldiers marched through the Red Square and then most went to the Battle of Moscow immediately after. 

The parade was put on to increase the morale of the Russian troops and to give people hope.

Held at the famous square, it features soldiers, cadets, members of various patriotic organizations and military equipment, including famous Katyusha multiple rocket launchers and T-34 tanks. 

Celebrations also include the reenactment of significant WWII events, such as the defense of Moscow and the capture of the Reichstag.

Men and women in a variety of traditional military dress descended upon the square for the practice run.
