You might already be aware of the actors’ history off-camera, which mainly involves Ryan cracking jokes about having previously dated the iconic comedian and trailblazing sitcom star.
For example, when Betty’s 97th birthday rolled around in early 2019, the Red Notice star shared an Instagram tribute noting that “[He doesn’t] usually post about ex-girlfriends. But Betty’s special.”
Ryan, who’s been in a relationship with his now-wife Blake Lively for almost a decade, went on to call Betty “the one and only,” which I think everyone can agree is a universally accurate description.
Betty turns 100 this January. And, in addition to her upcoming documentary, Betty White: 100 Years Young, the Golden Girls legend recently spoke to People magazine for its current issue celebrating the milestone occasion.
Naturally, she used the opportunity to troll Ryan a tiny bit. “I’ve heard Ryan can’t get over his thing for me,” Betty said. “But Robert Redford is The One.”
Tough luck, Ryan. The Deadpool actor, who naturally sang Betty’s praises alongside Sandra Bullock in their own individual comments to People, also responded to her playful gibe on social media.
“I’m absolutely sick of the media exploiting past relationships just to drive clicks,” he tweeted this morning, referencing the headline from People’s interview with Betty.
We’ll keep you posted about any further developments on this front. Ryan is one of many prominent celebrities set to appear in Betty’s birthday documentary, so stay tuned.
