A magical garden that looks like it could be a set from Netflix’s period drama Bridgerton has opened its doors again after being forced to close during Sydney’s last lockdown.   

While fans patiently wait for season two of the hit show which is set to air in March, they can get their fix by promenading around the enchanting Merribee Gardens, just two hours from Sydney in Numbaa on the NSW south coast. 

The ‘liquorice all sorts of a garden’ is home to an ornate topiary, lavender fields and a kaleidoscopic array of incredible plants, trees, shrubs and flowers spread across seven acres.

If you’re planning to book a trip ensure you do so on a Wednesday because that is the only day each week the gardens are open to the public.

The elaborate hedge rows and vibrant flower beds are reminiscent of a Parisian park, inspiring visitors with fragrant rose gardens, a lavender paddock filled with more than 1,000 lavender bushes and 20 ‘garden rooms’.

Owners Lucy and Richard Marshall have painstakingly perfected the botanical masterpiece since purchasing the property 20 years ago.

It has become a popular wedding venue and provides romantic accommodation for brides and grooms in a converted old grain silo that has 360 degree views of the Merribee dairy lands.

A post on the Visit Shoalhaven Instagram page describes a day at the gardens as an ‘overseas trip close to home’, an experience that is certain to draw crowds.

Drone footage filmed by Sydney blogger Clarmonta, which captures the spectacular scene from above, drew stunned responses when it was uploaded to the Visit NSW Instagram account.

Many were amazed that they had never heard of the gardens before, with one man writing: ‘This is fantastic, where is it?’
