West Ham 0-2 Newcastle: Premier League as it happened

West Ham vs Newcastle United – LIVE!

West Ham slumped to a fourth successive opening day loss without scoring at London Stadium on Saturday night.

David Moyes’ side twice hit the crossbar during a competitive first half before producing a dreadful display after the interval.

Debutants Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick both netted on debut for the visitors, who added to the growing sense of unrest already developing at West Ham this season.

It could be another long season for West Ham judging by that performance.

A flat display, lacking creativity, poor defending, no sign of any new signings – the problems are mounting at the London Stadium.

West Ham 0-2 Newcastle

A woeful start to the season from the Hammers, who lose on the opening day for the fourth season in succession.

93 mins: A chance at either end as Karl Darlow makes a rare save to deny Yarmolenko before Ogbonna does just enough to put off Almiron.

90 mins: Five minutes of added time signalled at the end of a hugely disappointing second half for West Ham.

89 mins: A change apiece in the final minute of the 90 as Newcastle send on Sean Longstaff in place of Carroll, who has put in a decent shift against his former club after avoiding action for those early aerial challenges.

Moyes introduces Felipe Anderson in place of the relatively anonymous Bowen.

87 mins: Almiron is straight into the action as he gets into the box and plays a square ball for Hendrick, who digs out an impressively powerful drive with Cresswell not applying enough pressure.

The ball flies past Fabianski and into the back of the net. Job done for Newcastle!

85 mins: Carroll is back on his feet and Bruce sticks with his original change.

A really impressive Newcastle debut from Callum Wilson.

84 mins: West Ham are huffing and puffing without much end product with time running out.

Newcastle were about to send on Miguel Almiron for Wilson, but may just hold fire with Carroll down with what looks like a touch of cramp.

79 mins: West Ham applying a bit of pressure now as we tick towards the final 10 minutes.

Aaron Cresswell’s corner from the left is flicked away by Carroll before Yarmolenko’s strike from the edge of the box deflects wide for a corner.

75 mins: That proves to be Saint-Maximin’s last action as he makes way for Joelinton after a frustrating evening that saw him repeatedly fouled by multiple West Ham players fearful of his pace and skill.

74 mins: Newcastle almost wrap up the three points as Wilson narrowly fails to connect with Manquillo’s pull-back after a lovely lofted pass from Hendrick.

Saint-Maximin then whistles a shot narrowly over the crossbar.

71 mins: A spot of yellow card confusion as Soucek’s caution is rescinded and given to Yarmolenko for dissent.

Isaac Hayden is down and in need of treatment for Newcastle.

West Ham have been really poor at the start of this second half and Newcastle have been in complete control since going ahead. David Moyes needs Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko to make an impact off the bench.

Jeff Hendrick’s arm is down by his side but you can see why David Moyes and his coaching staff are furious that hasn’t been given. I think they saw the incident on a monitor they have in the dugout. 20 minutes for West Ham to find an equaliser.

68 mins: Huge appeals for a West Ham penalty after chaos in the Newcastle box and a drilled effort from Haller that strikes the arm of Hendrick, which was by his side.

Nothing given after a VAR check. Manquillo is then booked for a poor challenge on Bowen.

67 mins: Captain Mark Noble and Pablo Fornals are the men to head off as Haller and Yarmolenko enter the fray.

65 mins: Antonio’s desire to get the ball back quickly for West Ham on the touchline leads to a shoulder barge from the West Ham forward on Newcastle coach Steve Agnew, who isn’t best pleased.

Referee Stuart Attwell quickly defuses the situation and Moyes is able to make his double switch.

64 mins: A double West Ham change is imminent as Moyes looks to fire up his side after a poor second-half showing thus far.

Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko will be on shortly.

It had to be him. That’s now eight goals for Callum Wilson against West Ham in nine Premier League games.

David Moyes needs to make a change here. Newcastle are pushing for a second and West Ham look out of ideas.

60 mins: West Ham earn a corner as they look to hit back quickly, but the ball is powered away by Carroll.

What a defensive header from the former Hammers frontman.
