Guys, we’ve got some major apologies to make – because we’re been pronouncing Charlize Theron’s name wrong her entire career.

The actress appeared on The One Show today and settled a debate between Gethin Jones and Alex Jones, who were unsure of how to pronounce her last name.

Alex thought it was Theron (rhymes Heron), while Gethin was making a case for it being pronounced Theron (sounds like gone).

So the pair were left dumbstruck when, despite initially being too polite to correct them, a-lister Charlize revealed they were actually both nowhere close.

In fact, her last name, which comes from a French background, is actually somewhat more similar to throne, with the tongue running over the ‘e’ almost completely and with more affectation at the end of the word.

Awkward. But at least now we know. Sorry, Charlize!

Charlize is in good company when it comes to celebs whose names are not as we know them – with more starts confession the public have been pronouncing things wrong completely.

Ariana Grande has previously revealed her last name is less like the coffee, and more rhymes with candy.

Chrissy Teigen’s last name is actually also pronounced Tie-gan, not Tee-gan.

Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure also told the BBC that her last name was actually said as ‘MacClewer’ rather than Mc-Lure.

The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One.
